Be an Advocate
Get involved in the cancer community
Being an advocate means building and maintaining a permanent network that unites you with others affected by cancer as voices for change around cancer issues. An advocate weighs in with policymakers on pieces of legislation, initiatives, or propositions which directly affects the care you receive. To have a strong voice in government, it is important to be active all year round.
ASTRO, the American Society for Radiation Oncology, has several action alerts with instructions on how to get involved as a cancer advocate.
ASTRO also participated in a House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee hearing on January 26, 2010, calling for Congress to enact patient safety plans.
